Running Down Childhood Cancer: The Million Mile Challenge Accepted
Every September, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation invites walkers, joggers, cyclists, marathon runners, and anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer to join them in The Million Mile Challenge. The goal is for participants across the country to collectively walk, run, or ride a million miles during the month of September. More importantly, the challenge is intended to help raise awareness for childhood cancer and raise funds for cancer researchers to develop better treatments and find better cures for the kids in need. It is the largest childhood cancer awareness challenge in the country.
This year, LogicSource and the Warriors for a Cure team gave their support to this great cause. A herculean team effort, 200 people laced-up for the challenge, culminating in over 220 donations from individuals, families and businesses on behalf of the participants.
LogicSource and the Warriors for a Cure team sprinted past their fundraising goal of $120,000, raising a total of $140,000 for childhood cancer research. With that, the team earned the top spot in the fundraising ranks for the fifth consecutive year. What’s more, the Warriors for a Cure team covered over 25,000 miles, good for 8th place in total team miles.
“The mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Warriors For A Cure team is to cure all kids with cancer. For us, it’s not a question of if, but when. Longtime supporter, David Pennino, shares that same determination. His inspired advocacy, ability to organize, and rally his people around our cause has been a driving force behind the success of the Warriors For A Cure team. If we could clone David, we would, and we’d find a cure for childhood cancer that much sooner. “

The potential impact of our efforts was deepened even further by challenge sponsor, Volvo, which teamed up with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation throughout the challenge and has graciously matched a large percentage of our fundraising donations.

It was an uplifting event for all involved, benefiting a cause close to all of our hearts. LogicSource is proud to be a partner with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation now and well into the future. We’re looking forward to the 2019 challenge, helping to raise money for pediatric cancer research for the 6th consecutive year.
We’d like to thank everyone who donated money for this great cause, and thanks to those who laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement in memory of Alex.
